Inspiration
Funky Fins was born out of a love for surfing and an idea to bring fun, color and beauty to the fins of surfboards everywhere. The original idea for the Funky Fin decals came from a set of dull black fins that looked so out of place on a beautiful red board. It was a desire to put a more fitting design onto the fins of this board that gave our founder the idea to create a set of decals that could give surfers the freedom to create a look that stands out from others and fits in with the beauty of the surfing world. Through these designs Funky Fins hopes to help create a surf culture that is fun, welcoming, and inclusive for all.

Meet Felix
Growing up in Washington State, I was not exposed to surfing until I moved to California to attend Long Beach State University. After just a few times in the water I fell in love with surfing and became convinced that riding waves is one of the most exciting, fun and rewarding experiences you can have in life. I also strongly believe in the therapeutic qualities of surfing and stand by the fact that surfing can change lives. The biggest obstacles for new surfers getting into the water are access to equipment, fear/intimidation and support. My hope is that through partnerships with organizations that provide various solutions to these obstacles, Funky Fins can help further access to surfing for people who otherwise would not be able to enjoy the activity that changed my life.
Meet Jaime
I’m an all around ocean lover from SoCal, passionate about surfing, scuba diving, and tidepooling. Born and raised in Los Angeles, the beach was my home away from home. I was inspired to start surfing as a way to connect deeper with the ocean through fitness and wellness. When I was starting out on my surf journey, I was extremely nervous and felt alone. This story is all too common among other novice surfers, especially BIPOC women. My inspiration and hope for Funky Fins is to make surfing more accessible through our give back program, while also adding whimsy to the waves.
